Notes:
Welding and fabrication considerations:
- The higher phosphorus content (0.07–0.12%) can increase susceptibility to solidification cracking and reduced toughness in heavy sections. Preheating and low-hydrogen welding procedures are recommended.
- When thickness exceeds 30 mm or for dynamically loaded structures, supplementary toughness testing (e.g., KV₂ at 0 °C or -20 °C) can be agreed upon at the time of ordering.
- Weathering steel develops the stable rust layer (patina) only under alternating wet/dry atmospheric conditions; it is not intended for continuous submerged or buried service without coating.
- For aesthetic or rapid patina formation, controlled outdoor exposure or surface pre-treatment can be applied.
