SUS410S is a low-carbon martensitic stainless steel containing 11.50–13.50% chromium. The reduced carbon content (<0.08%) provides improved weldability and toughness compared to standard grade 410, while maintaining fair corrosion resistance. In the annealed condition, it possesses a fine martensitic structure and exhibits moderate mechanical strength. It is widely used in components requiring welding or moderate corrosion protection, such as chemical equipment, building structures, and turbine parts. The steel is typically supplied as hot-rolled or cold-rolled plates, sheets, and coils in the annealed and pickled (or bright annealed) condition.

Notes:
Heat treatment: Annealing is typically performed at 780–820°C followed by air cooling or slow cooling. This achieves the softest, most ductile condition.
Welding recommendations: SUS410S has good weldability for a martensitic steel. Matching filler metal (e.g., 410) or austenitic fillers (e.g., 309) can be used. Preheating to 150–200°C and controlled interpass temperature are advised. Post‑weld heat treatment at 700–750°C helps relieve residual stresses and restore toughness.
Forming: Cold forming is limited; severe deformation may require intermediate annealing.
Corrosion resistance: Best performance is obtained in the annealed condition. Resistance can be improved by polishing or passivation.
