SUS410 Martensitic Stainless Steel Plate/Coil Introduction

SUS410 is a Japanese standard martensitic chromium stainless steel defined in JIS G4304 for hot-rolled and JIS G4305 for cold-rolled plates, sheets and strips. It corresponds to AISI 410. Basic characteristics include good corrosion resistance in mild environments, high strength and hardness after heat treatment, and excellent wear resistance. In the annealed condition it offers good ductility and formability. After quenching and tempering, it can achieve a wide range of mechanical properties, making it suitable for components requiring both strength and moderate corrosion resistance.

Notes:

Heat treatment is essential for SUS410 to achieve desired mechanical properties. Typical hardening: heat to 950–1010 °C, oil or air quench. Tempering between 150–370 °C for maximum hardness, or 650–750 °C for improved toughness. Avoid temper embrittlement in the range 400–580 °C. Welding requires preheating (200–300 °C) and post-weld heat treatment to prevent cracking. In annealed condition, the material is magnetic.
