SUS405 Ferritic Stainless Steel Plate/Coil Introduction
SUS405 is a ferritic stainless steel containing chromium and aluminum, designed for enhanced oxidation resistance and scaling resistance up to 815°C. It offers moderate strength and good ductility in the annealed condition. This non-hardenable alloy is magnetic and exhibits excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Commonly supplied as hot-rolled or cold-rolled plates, sheets, and coils, SUS405 is widely used in automotive exhaust systems, heat exchangers, and industrial furnace components.

SUS405 Ferritic Stainless Steel Plate/Coil Similar or Alternative Grades for Reference
| Country / Region | Standard | Designation | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | ASTM A240/A240M | 410S (UNS S41008) | 12% Cr ferritic steel without Al; lower oxidation resistance |
| Japan | JIS G 4304 | SUS410L | Low carbon 12Cr ferritic, no Al; good weldability |
| Europe | EN 10088-2 | 1.4000 - X6Cr13 | 12% Cr ferritic without Al; lower scaling temperature |

Notes:
Welding: preheat to 150–200°C and post-weld annealing recommended to avoid cracking; filler material can be matching or austenitic (e.g., 309L). Avoid prolonged exposure at 475°C to prevent embrittlement. Not suitable for strong reducing acids or high-chloride environments due to risk of pitting corrosion.
