JIS G3103 SB410 Boiler & Pressure Vessel Steel Plate Introduction
SB410 is a carbon steel plate grade specified in Japanese Industrial Standard JIS G3103, intended for use in boilers and pressure vessels operating at moderate temperatures. It offers a balanced combination of strength, ductility, and weldability. Key features include:
- Minimum tensile strength of 410 MPa
- Good notch toughness at ambient and low temperatures
- Reliable performance under moderate pressure and thermal cycling
- Available in various thicknesses with controlled chemistry
The steel is typically supplied in the normalized or as-rolled condition, depending on thickness and customer requirements. It is widely used in power generation, chemical processing, and industrial equipment manufacturing.
JIS G3103 SB410 Boiler & Pressure Vessel Steel Plate Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of JIS G3103 SB410 is controlled to ensure adequate strength, weldability, and toughness. Silicon is intentionally added within a specified range for deoxidation. Phosphorus and sulfur are limited to minimize brittleness and hot cracking. Typical composition limits:

JIS G3103 SB410 Boiler & Pressure Vessel Steel Plate Application Introduction
SB410 plates are primarily used in the fabrication of welded boilers and pressure vessels designed for service at temperatures up to about 400°C. The steel is easily weldable with all common arc welding processes, and no preheating is generally required for thin sections. Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is recommended for thick plates or when service conditions demand stress relief. Suitable cutting methods include plasma, laser, and oxy-fuel. The material can be hot or cold formed; hot forming is preferred for tight radii to avoid strain aging.
Product Applications: Steam boilers and drums, Pressure vessels and reactors, Heat exchangers and condensers, Process columns and separators, Storage tanks for moderate pressure, Industrial piping and headers
Processed into products: Boiler shells and end plates, Flanges and dished heads, Tube sheets for heat exchangers, Baffles and support plates, Nozzle reinforcements, Rings and stiffeners, Blind flanges and blanking plates
Application industries: Power generation, Oil and gas, Chemical processing, Petrochemical, Industrial equipment manufacturing
