EStE500 Hot Rolled Steel Coil per DIN 17102 Introduction

EStE500 is a weldable fine-grain structural steel specified in the German standard DIN 17102 for hot-rolled flat products. Characterized by a minimum yield strength of 500 MPa and good low-temperature toughness, it is microalloyed with elements such as niobium and titanium to achieve grain refinement and precipitation hardening. Typical delivery condition is hot-rolled and controlled-rolled (or normalized if required).
The steel offers excellent formability and weldability, making it suitable for heavy-duty structural components in the automotive, crane, and construction industries. It is a predecessor to the European standard EN 10149-2 S500MC.

Notes:

  • When ordering, refer to the designated heat treatment condition (e.g., controlled rolled, normalized).
  • For thicknesses above 16 mm, reduced mechanical properties apply; consult the standard.
  • Weldability may be influenced by actual CEV; low-hydrogen welding processes are recommended.
  • The datasheet reflects the superseded DIN 17102; current projects should consider EN 10149-2 S500MC as the modern alternative.
