X30Cr13 Stainless Steel Introduction
X30Cr13 is a martensitic corrosion-resistant stainless steel standardized in EN 10088-1 and supplied as plate or coil. It offers a combination of high hardness, moderate corrosion resistance, and good wear performance after heat treatment. The grade is widely used for applications requiring strength and mild chemical resistance.
- Typical condition: annealed (+A) for forming, or quenched and tempered (+QT) for final mechanical properties
- Corrosion resistance comparable to AISI 420, but lower than austenitic grades
- Magnetic in all conditions
- Good polishability and machinability in annealed state
X30Cr13 Stainless Steel Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of X30Cr13 conforms to EN 10088-1:2014. The alloy is characterized by its carbon and chromium content, which enable hardenability and corrosion resistance. Low sulfur ensures minimal hot working difficulties.
- Iron forms the balance
- No intentional additions of molybdenum, titanium, or other elements

Notes:
Heat treatment: Austenitize at 950–1000°C, oil or air quench; temper at 650–750°C (air cool). Avoid tempering between 400–600°C to prevent embrittlement. Welding: Preheating (200–300°C) and post-weld heat treatment required to avoid cracking. Use matching filler metal (e.g., AWS E410 filler). Corrosion: Best resistance obtained in hardened and tempered condition with smooth surface finish. Susceptible to intergranular corrosion if sensitized; not suitable for strong acidic environments.
