DIN 17102 StE460 Hot Rolled Coil Introduction
StE460 according to DIN 17102 is a hot-rolled, weldable, fine-grain structural steel with a minimum yield strength of 460 MPa in the as‑delivered condition (normalized or normalized rolled). The fine grain structure, achieved by aluminium and optionally microalloying elements (Nb, V, Ti), ensures good toughness at low temperatures and excellent weldability. This steel grade is primarily used for welded structures in civil engineering, bridge building, crane construction and pressure vessels. The material is typically supplied as hot rolled coils, sheets or plates in thicknesses up to approx. 100 mm. The delivery condition is normalised or normalised rolled, guaranteeing uniform mechanical properties across the thickness. Thanks to its balanced chemical composition and controlled rolling practices, StE460 offers a favourable combination of high strength, good formability and reliable impact behaviour, making it a cost‑effective alternative to conventional S355 structural steels.
