XM-29 (UNS S24000) is a high-manganese, nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless steel combining excellent strength with good corrosion resistance.

Notes:

  • Welding: Use AWS ER209 or ER312 filler metals; maintain interpass temperature below 150 °C to preserve properties. Post-weld annealing is normally not required.
  • Corrosion: Comparable to Type 304 in many media, with better resistance to chloride SCC. Not suitable for strongly oxidizing acids or high-temperature H₂S above 60 °C (refer to NACE limits).
  • Cold working: Rapid work hardening; achievable strengths can exceed 1000 MPa in heavily cold-worked conditions while retaining non-magnetic behavior.
