TStE355 Fine Grain Structural Steel Coil Introduction
TStE355 is a hot-rolled, weldable fine-grain structural steel originally specified under the withdrawn German standard DIN 17102:1980. It is designed for demanding welded constructions, where high toughness and strength are required. The grade guarantees a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa for thicknesses up to 16 mm, coupled with excellent notch impact energy at low temperatures (typically -20°C). Its fine-grain structure is achieved by controlled rolling and/or normalizing, ensuring uniform mechanical properties and good formability. Today the standard is superseded by EN 10025-3 (grade S355N/NL), but TStE355 remains widely recognized in existing structures and international referencing.
TStE355 Fine Grain Structural Steel Coil Chemical Composition
Heat analysis according to DIN 17102:1980. Fine-grain elements (Nb, V, Ti) are added singly or in combination to ensure a fine-grain microstructure. Aluminium is present as a grain refiner. The low carbon content and controlled micro-alloying guarantee good weldability and high toughness at low temperatures.
