SUS316 Stainless Steel Pipe Introduction
JIS G4305 SUS316 is a molybdenum-alloyed austenitic stainless steel supplied as cold-rolled sheet and strip. It offers superior corrosion resistance compared to SUS304, particularly against pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments. The addition of 2–3% molybdenum significantly enhances its resistance to sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and organic acids. The material is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and exhibits good weldability and formability. Typical applications include chemical processing equipment, marine hardware, food and pharmaceutical vessels, and architectural panels exposed to aggressive atmospheres. It is delivered in solution-annealed and lightly skin-passed condition to meet specified mechanical and surface quality requirements.

Additional information:
- JIS G4305 covers cold-rolled stainless steel sheets and strips; for piping applications, the corresponding tubing standard is JIS G3459 (SUS316TP). This data sheet refers to the raw material form of sheet/strip.
- Intergranular corrosion resistance may be reduced after welding or slow cooling. Post-weld solution annealing or use of low-carbon 316L is recommended for heavy sections.
- Material should be protected from contamination by carbon steel during storage and processing to prevent surface rust stains.
