S890QL High-Strength Quenched & Tempered Structural Steel Plate & ERW Pipe Similar or Substitute Material Recommendations
| Country/Region | Standard | Grade | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe | EN 10025-6 | S890Q | Same strength, impact test at -20°C instead of -40°C; suitable for less severe low‑temperature applications |
| Europe | EN 10025-6 | S960QL | Higher yield strength (≥960 MPa); lower ductility; use where lighter weight is critical |
| USA | ASTM A514/A517 | Grade S | Yield strength ~690 MPa; high‑strength quenched & tempered steel for structural plates; lower strength than S890QL |
| Sweden / International | Trademark (SSAB) | Weldox 900 / Strenx 900 | Proprietary grade; comparable minimum yield strength 890 MPa; often sold as plate or tube |
| Germany / International | Trademark (Dillinger) | DILLIMAX 890 | Proprietary grade; high‑strength fine‑grained structural steel with minimum yield strength 890 MPa |
Notes:
ERW pipe manufacture requires appropriate welding procedures; low‑hydrogen consumables and preheat may be necessary depending on thickness. Post‑weld heat treatment (PWHT) is often applied to restore toughness. The CEV limit of 0.65 ensures good weldability, but heat input control is critical to avoid softening in the HAZ. Always refer to the latest edition of EN 10025‑6 and the manufacturer's specific datasheet for guaranteed properties.
