Notes:
Corrosion resistance: Excellent in rural, urban, and mild industrial atmospheres. Resistant to many organic chemicals and oxidizing acids (e.g., nitric acid below 50% concentration). Susceptible to pitting and crevice corrosion in stagnant chloride environments (e.g., seawater). Stress corrosion cracking may occur in warm (>60°C) chloride solutions. Weldability: Readily welded by TIG, MIG, and plasma processes. For maximum corrosion resistance in severe environments, post-weld solution annealing is recommended. Machining: Work hardens rapidly; use rigid setups, positive feed, and sufficient coolant. Heat treatment: Cannot be hardened by heat treatment; annealing range 1010–1120°C followed by rapid quench.
