GL A32 Shipbuilding Steel Coil Introduction

GL A32 is a high strength hull structural steel grade defined in the rules of Germanischer Lloyd (now DNV GL). It is widely used in shipbuilding and offshore engineering for primary structures such as hull plates, decks and bulkheads. GL A32 offers a minimum yield strength of 315 MPa and good toughness at 0°C, making it suitable for critical load-bearing applications. The steel is typically supplied as hot-rolled coils or plates in normalized or thermo-mechanically controlled processed (TMCP) condition.

GL A32 Shipbuilding Steel Coil Chemical Composition

The chemical composition complies with IACS UR W11 (Rev.8) and GL Rules for high strength hull structural steel A32. Grain refining elements such as Al, Nb, V or Ti are normally added to achieve the required fine grain size and toughness. Carbon equivalent (CE) may be additionally restricted based on thickness and customer requirements to ensure good weldability.
