TStE255 is a weldable fine-grain structural steel defined in the now withdrawn German standard DIN 17102:1978. It is supplied in the normalized or normalized rolled condition. The steel is characterized by a minimum yield strength of 255 MPa for thicknesses up to 16 mm and guaranteed impact toughness at -20°C. Thanks to its fine-grain microstructure obtained through controlled rolling or normalizing, TStE255 offers good weldability, uniform mechanical properties, and resistance to brittle fracture. It is widely used in welded steel structures such as bridges, cranes, storage tanks, and vehicle components. In modern standards, TStE255 has been superseded by grades like EN 10025-3 S275N.
