DIN 17100 St37-2 ERW Pipe Introduction
DIN 17100 St37-2 is a widely used general structural steel for welded, bolted, and riveted structures. When manufactured as electric resistance welded (ERW) pipe, it offers good weldability, formability, and adequate strength for many industrial and construction applications. Typical tensile strength ranges from 360 to 510 MPa, with minimum yield strength of 235 MPa for thicknesses up to 16 mm. The steel is typically supplied in the as-rolled condition and is suitable for cold forming and hot-dip galvanizing. It has been superseded by EN 10025-2 S235JR but remains in common use under legacy specifications.

Notes:
St37-2 material is typically delivered in the as-rolled condition and may exhibit a mill scale surface. For ERW pipes, additional requirements for dimensional tolerances, straightness, and pressure tests should be defined by the relevant product standard (e.g., EN 10217-1, EN 10219-1, or API 5L for pipeline applications). Although DIN 17100 has been withdrawn, St37-2 is still commercially available and is normally certified to the modern equivalent EN 10025-2 S235JR. When ordering, it is recommended to specify the steel according to the current standard and to include any supplementary requirements for impact testing or specific chemical restrictions if needed.
