1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10) stainless steel pipe according to DIN 17400 is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance, good formability, and weldability. Its typical composition of 18% Cr and 10% Ni provides a stable austenitic structure at ambient temperature. This grade is widely used in food processing, chemical equipment, and architectural applications. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and can be easily cold-worked to increase strength. The pipe is typically supplied in solution-annealed and pickled condition.

1.4301 pipes are ideal for applications requiring good corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments. They are not suitable for seawater or strong reducing acids.

  • Excellent formability and deep drawing capability.
  • Good weldability by all standard methods except oxyacetylene.
  • Can be used from cryogenic to moderately elevated temperatures (up to ~300°C continuously, 800°C for intermittent service).
  • Not hardenable by heat treatment; work hardening can increase strength.
