JIS G4304 & G4305 SUS310S Austenitic Stainless Steel Plate/Coil Introduction

SUS310S is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with low carbon content, providing excellent oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures up to 1050°C (1922°F). It combines good strength and corrosion resistance with excellent resistance to scaling and carburization in high-temperature service. The alloy is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and can be easily formed and welded. Its high chromium (~25%) and nickel (~20%) content ensure superior performance in oxidizing, reducing, and carburizing atmospheres. Common forms include plate, coil, sheet, and strip, delivered in solution-annealed or as-hot-rolled condition, often with pickled surface finish.

JIS G4304 & G4305 SUS310S Austenitic Stainless Steel Plate/Coil Application Introduction

SUS310S is widely used in high-temperature environments up to 1050°C in continuous service and up to 1100°C in intermittent service. It resists oxidation and scaling in air, combustion gases, and sulfur-containing atmospheres. It is suitable for carburizing and reducing environments but not for highly corrosive acids like hydrochloric. Fabrication includes forming, welding, and machining. Post-weld annealing is generally not required for thicknesses under 6 mm, but may be beneficial for thick sections to relieve stress.

Product Applications: Furnace parts: radiant tubes, muffles, retorts, conveyor belts, Heat exchangers, recuperators, and boiler components, Petrochemical reactor internals, catalyst support grids, Kiln linings and burners, Automotive exhaust piping and catalytic converters, Gas turbine combustion chambers and transition ducts, Flue gas ducts and stack liners, Food processing ovens and conveyor systems

Processed into products: Radiant tubes and furnace rolls, Muffle walls and baskets, Heat exchanger tubesheets and baffles, Burner tips and flame holders, Thermocouple protection tubes, Annealing and carburizing boxes, Expansion bellows, Welded wire mesh belts, Scraper bars and quench fixtures

Application industries: Power Generation, Petrochemical Processing, Heat Treatment and Industrial Furnaces, Chemical Processing, Automotive (Exhaust Systems), Aerospace (Auxiliary Power Units), Food Processing Equipment, Waste Incineration, Refining and Gasification

GlobalVarious253MA (S30815)Contains nitrogen and rare earth metals, superior oxidation resistance up to 1150°C and higher strength

Notes:

SUS310S is not recommended for continuous use in conditions where heavy thermal shock occurs, due to its relatively high thermal expansion. The material exhibits good resistance to sigma phase embrittlement compared to higher-chromium grades, but prolonged exposure between 600-900°C can lead to some loss of ductility. Machining requires rigid setups, sharp tools, and adequate cooling due to work hardening. Welding by all common methods is possible, but filler metal matching AWS ER310 or similar should be used to maintain corrosion resistance. For cryogenic applications, the alloy retains good toughness down to -196°C.
