GB/T 5312 Grade 410I/410II/410III Shipbuilding Carbon Steel Seamless Tubes Introduction
GB/T 5312 410I, 410II, 410III are carbon steel seamless tubes specifically designed for ship and vessel piping systems. The material belongs to the 410 strength class and is differentiated by the required impact test temperature:
- 410I – impact test at 0°C
- 410II – impact test at -20°C
- 410III – impact test at -40°C
All three grades share the same chemical composition and basic tensile properties, ensuring a minimum yield strength of 235 MPa and tensile strength between 410 and 530 MPa. The tubes are delivered in normalized condition, offering good weldability and toughness for shipbuilding environments. Typical applications include fuel oil lines, steam pipes, freshwater systems and other pressure circuits on vessels. The standard is harmonized with ISO 9329-2, where the equivalent designation is PH410 with corresponding temperature suffixes.

GB/T 5312 Grade 410I/410II/410III Shipbuilding Carbon Steel Seamless Tubes Thermal and Electrical Physical Properties
The standard GB/T 5312 does not specify thermal or electrical physical properties for grade 410. The following values are typical for carbon steel with similar composition and may be used for engineering estimates but are not part of the normative requirements.
| Property | Typical Value | Unit | Test Condition / Remarks |
|---|

GB/T 5312 Grade 410I/410II/410III Shipbuilding Carbon Steel Seamless Tubes Application Introduction
GB/T 5312 410I/II/III seamless tubes are widely used in shipbuilding for pressure parts. The selection of the impact test temperature (I, II or III) depends on the design temperature and location of the piping system. 410III is recommended for low-temperature service and for systems exposed to cold environments. The material can be processed by hot bending, cold bending, welding and machining into various piping components. Normalized delivery ensures homogeneous structure and good toughness.
Product Applications: Marine fuel oil piping systems, Lubricating oil lines, Steam and condensate piping, Compressed air and service water pipelines, Hydraulic and ballast water systems
Processed into products: Pipe sections and pieces, Bends and elbows (hot or cold formed), Tees and reducers, Flanges and branch connections, Prefabricated spools and pipe supports
Application industries: Shipbuilding and ship repair, Marine engineering, Offshore platform construction, Pressure vessel manufacturing for marine use
GB/T 5312 Grade 410I/410II/410III Shipbuilding Carbon Steel Seamless Tubes Similar or Comparable Alternative Materials
| Country / Region | Standard | Grade | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | ASTM A106 | Grade B | Tensile strength ≥415 MPa, Yield ≥240 MPa; carbon content up to 0.30% may limit weldability compared to 410. |
| EU | EN 10216-2 | P235GH | Similar yield strength (235 MPa) but lower tensile range (360–500 MPa); suitable for pressure purposes. |
| Japan | JIS G3456 | STPG410 | Tensile 410–550 MPa, Yield ≥245 MPa; sometimes used for similar temperature applications. |
Notes:
The impact test requirements must be verified for the actual wall thickness, especially for thick-walled tubes. For applications requiring certified through-thickness properties or additional non-destructive testing, supplementary requirements according to GB/T 5312 Annex or relevant classification society rules should be specified in the order.
