Thermomechanical controlled processing (TMCP), controlled rolling, normalizing; suitable for cold bending, welding, cutting

CCS EH36 Shipbuilding Steel Coil Introduction

CCS EH36 shipbuilding steel is a high-strength hull structural steel certified by the China Classification Society. It is primarily used for offshore and marine constructions requiring excellent toughness at low temperatures, with a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa and Charpy V-notch impact energy of 34J longitudinal at -40°C.

  • Fully killed fine-grain steel, often produced through thermomechanical controlled processing (TMCP) or normalizing.
  • Excellent weldability and cold-forming properties suitable for critical ship structures.
  • Available as coils, plates, and sections in a wide range of thicknesses, used in deck plating, hull shells, and stiffeners.

CCS EH36 Shipbuilding Steel Coil Chemical Composition

Chemical composition according to CCS & GB/T 712 standards. EH36 is a fine-grain fully killed steel with controlled microalloying elements (Nb, V, Ti, Al) to ensure grain refinement and high toughness. Carbon equivalent (CEV) usually limited to 0.38%–0.43% to ensure weldability.

Notes:

EH36 steel shall be supplied with certificates issued by the classification society. Welding procedures must be qualified for the thickness and heat input range. Preheat and interpass temperature control may be necessary depending on plate thickness to avoid hydrogen cracking. Carbon equivalent (CEV) limits are tightened for thicker sections; typical maximum CEV for ≤50 mm is 0.38%, and for 50–70 mm is 0.40%. For optional high heat input welding, additional testing such as CTOD may be specified for offshore structures.
