Notes:
The material is usually supplied in the quenched and tempered condition with a hardness commonly in the range of 250–300 HBW (not a specification requirement). Supplementary requirements such as ultrasonic examination (ASTM A435/A577), Charpy impact testing (Supplement S8), or simulated post-weld heat treatment can be specified upon ordering. Proper preheating and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) practices should be followed to avoid heat-affected zone cracking. Thermal cutting and cold forming should be performed in accordance with fabricator's guidelines to preserve mechanical properties.
