AH32 High-Strength Shipbuilding Steel for ERW Pipe Introduction
AH32 is a high-strength hull structural steel widely used in shipbuilding and offshore engineering. With a minimum yield strength of 315 MPa, it delivers excellent toughness at 0°C and good weldability. When processed into ERW pipe, AH32 demonstrates reliable performance for structural tubing, fluid transportation, and pressure applications in marine environments. The material conforms to CCS, ABS, DNV, GL, LR, and other major classification society rules, ensuring consistent quality worldwide. Typical delivery condition includes hot-rolled, controlled-rolled, or normalized, with surface quality suitable for direct forming and welding into longitudinal seam pipes.
AH32 High-Strength Shipbuilding Steel for ERW Pipe Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of AH32 steel is tightly controlled to ensure a fine balance of strength, toughness, and weldability. Carbon equivalent (CE) is typically limited to ≤0.38% to avoid cold cracking. Microalloying elements like Nb, V, Ti may be added singly or in combination for grain refinement.
- Values are based on ladle analysis per GB 712 and classification society rules.

Notes:
- For ERW pipe production, AH32 strip or plate is formed and welded using high-frequency resistance welding. Post-weld heat treatment (normalizing) of the seam may be required for certain service conditions.
- Hydrostatic testing and non-destructive testing (ultrasonic or eddy current) of the weld seam are typically performed according to the pipe standard (e.g., API 5L, EN 10217, or customer specification).
- A mill test certificate (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2) is normally provided, stating chemical composition, mechanical properties, and hydrostatic test results.
- When used in sour service (H₂S containing environments), supplementary HIC/SSC testing per NACE MR0175 should be considered, though AH32 is not specifically designed for sour service.
